O’s Notes: The session opens with Mark (g) and Bobby Watson (sax) shadowing each other on “Ferdinand and Isabelle”. They then each break into upbeat solos in front of Jim Lyden (b) and Les Harris Jr. (d). The pace slows on the ballad “Long Look Back” before swinging on “Four Lane Clover” and “South of Mason”. They collectively cook on “Start It Up”! Mark succeeds in writing tunes that showcase Watson without outshining the rest of the band. The groove makes you pat your feet, continuously!
